If the money is less important than the fun of playing with a different brand I'd say go for the Canon. If being thrifty is your goal I'd suggest buying a K1 which will cost you $900 or thereabouts. Not getting the Nikon allowed me to spend on pro-grade glass for my Pentax's and still save money overall.
